Scimitar Grimm

Typeface

Self-Initiated

This is a set of typefaces that is inspired by the concept that when fairy tales are recreated, there is no connection between the Drop Caps and the body text of the book. Drop caps are used to emphasis the start to a story or a name but are chosen out of aesthetic with no consideration for the body text that is to be paired with it. These typefaces all have a common style and approach so that they can be used and applied to create a consistent and authentic aesthetic. The style of the type is inspired by the Scimitar sword that is curved with an interesting flat edge side. The body text then acts as a simpler and more practical form of type. The type is to be applied to contexts of fiction or historic value as the aesthetic follows a gothic and old English style of font. The name of the font is Scimitar Grimm as it is inspired by the sword but also the original Brothers Grimm fairy tales that have dark and disturbing origins.
