Scimitar Grimm

Typeface

Self-Initiated

Scimitar Grimm is a set of different typefaces with the focus of creating typefaces that work together in synchronicity as they all would be used within the gothic fairytale context. Many typefaces tend to be used in recreations of gothic contexts but when used, these typefaces tend not to work together and don't follow any form on consistency due to them being completely different typefaces. this tends to be the failure of a design as the consistency is clear and stands out. these typefaces are all connected through style, aesthetic and imagery as they are all based off the same concept and intention. the concept of the Scimitar sword is used heavily within the drop cap and capital letter type and have a simplified form within the body text for improved legibility. with gothic type and old English fonts as inspiration, the type can be applied to an array of contexts and outcomes as the design hasn't been created for a singular purpose.

The context that I chose to represent the type within is as scattered sheets of loose papers. The scenario that comes to mind when considering the type in context is of loose sheets of old stained paper across a wooden table, with a leather pouch beside it to show the transportation of the papers. As the loose papers with rough edges shows the time before industrial creations of paper with hand-rendered designs that outline the paper. The sheets of paper have been created to look dated and somewhat rough to make the type more effective.
